Mustangs Prepare For Tough Test At Conference Challenge

COLLEGE STATION (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs men's tennis team will look to gain experience and will have the opportunity to beat some of the top-ranked players in the region as they participate in the Conference Challenge hosted by Texas A&M starting Friday.

The tournament features Illinois, which finished last season ranked 15th in the nation; Oklahoma, which boasts the No. 1 doubles pairing in the nation in Costin Paval (who is also the No. 6 singles player) and Dane Webb; Texas A&M, which finished last season ranked 30th; and LSU, which ended last year No. 25 in the polls and includes the No. 18 singles player in Olivier Borsos.

"It's a great chance for our guys and a great experience to play nationally ranked individuals," Head Coach Carl Neufeld said. "It'll be a physical text throughout the weekend."

The Mustangs are bringing Mischa Nowicki, Arturs Kazijevs and Nate Lammons. Kazijevs is fresh off beating the No. 7 singles player in the nation, Mate Zsiga of Baylor, at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships this past weekend. Zsiga was the top-seed at the tournament.
