Austin, Texas (SMU) - The doubles pairing of Gwinyai Chingoka and Paul McNaughton had a successful showing in the 2004 Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championship on Sunday. The duo won their quarterfinal match over Almeida and Andrade from UTSA 9-8 to advance to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, they were not as fortunate and dropped their match 8-1 to Abreu and Sestini of TCU. This performance should help them gain an ITA ranking to accompany Oredsson and Soderberg.

In other doubles action, Oredsson and Soderberg dropped their match in the quarterfinals 8-5 to Corduneau and Tabak of Louisiana-Lafayette. Coming into the weekend, Oredsson and Soderberg were ranked No. 41.

Head coach Carl Neufeld is very pleased with the team's performance this fall.

"This is the best we have ever played in this regional," Neufeld said. "Four out of five players did their personal best and that is always our goal as a team and for me as a coach."

The SMU men?s tennis team will return to action when some team members travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to participate in the National Indoor Championship Nov. 4-7.
