SMU Men's Tennis Advances Four to Round of 32 at ITA Regional

Austin, Texas (SMU) - The SMU men?s tennis team opened the first day of competition in the 2004 Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships in impressive fashion Friday, as it advanced four players in singles to tomorrow?s play. Most notably, Peter Oredsson, who continued his stellar play in fall action when he ousted Luis Diaz-Barriga of Texas in three sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, who was ranked No. 60 in the World Junior ITF Rankings at the end of last season.

Sophomore sensation Alex Skrypko won his match in the round of 64 over Emilio Kirby of Lamar 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the round of 32 on Saturday. Other Mustang winners advancing to the round of 32 were Henrik Soderberg and Paul McNaughton. Soderberg won in straight sets over Andrew Ulrich of TCU 7-5, 6-1, while McNaughton also won in straight sets when he defeated Jeremy Hubbard of Texas 7-5, 6-3.

The second day of competition at the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23 beginning with doubles at 8:30 a.m. and singles at 10:00 a.m.
