Chattanooga, Tenn. (SMU) - SMU junior Peter Oredsson was victorious again in the 2004 Icy Hot/ITA Men?s All-American Championships. The native of Sweden defeated Chris Westerhof of Florida State in a three set thriller 7-5, 6-7, 7-5 to advance to the Main Draw Oct. 7-10. Oredsson was the only player out of close to 300 to begin play in pre-qualifying and make it to the main draw.

Oredsson has now won his seventh match in the event to gain entry into the Main Draw, which features more than half of the top 50 players in the preseason ITA singles rankings. Oredsson will meet Jason Hazley from LSU on Wednesday.

Head coach Carl Neufeld is very excited about Oredsson?s play thus far.

?This is such a fantastic experience for him,? Neufeld said. ?It validates the hard work he has put in over the summer and shows the significant improvement he has made from playing in the five spot last year, to competing with the best in the country right now.?
