Men's Tennis Defeats Hawai'i 4-2 at WAC Championships

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The SMU men's tennis team recorded a 4-2 victory over Hawai'i in the quarterfinals of the 2005 Western Athletic Conference Championships Friday, at the UH Tennis Complex. The third-seeded Mustangs advance to the semifinals where they face Rice on Saturday.

The Mustangs (ITA #41) took the doubles point with victories at the Nos. 1 and 2 courts. The Rainbow Warriors rallied in singles play with straight sets win at the top two singles courts. Dalibor Ptak defeated Paul McNaughton, 6-3, 6-3, while Bryon Weinberg swept Gwinyai Chingoka, 6-3, 6-1.

But the match was won at the bottom three singles spots as Peter Oredsson, Henrik Soderberg, and David Kuczer posted wins at the Nos. 4, 5, and 6 courts. Oredsson's 6-2, 6-4 victory over Jarrod Diepraam was the match-clincher.
