DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs will aim to get back to their winning ways as they host UT Arlington on Wednesday and Trinity (TX) on Friday at the Samuell Grand Tennis Center. The match against UT Arlington is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the Trinity meeting is at 4 p.m.
The Mustangs are coming off a tough road trip last week in which they went 1-2, beating Illinois-Chicago but losing to No. 31 Notre Dame and USF. SMU was ranked 65th in the nation entering the week, but has since fallen out of the rankings. SMU's top doubles duo of Arturs Kazijevs and Mischa Nowicki are still ranked, claiming the 70th spot in the ITA Rankings released today. Kazijevs and Nowicki are 10-4 during the spring and have won six straight decisions.
Doubles play has been strong for the Mustangs all season, as the squad holds a 25-16 record overall. Gaston Cuadranti and Alex Sanders are 7-3, while Nate Lammons and Pablo Perez-Esnaola also hold a winning record at 7-5.
UT Arlington is 7-11 on the season, winning its most recent match against Seattle, 7-0, on Sunday. Prior to that victory, the Mavericks had lost its last seven matches against Division I opponents.
Trinity is currently ranked seventh in the nation at the Division III level and has won its last seven matches, including three triumphs over top-20 teams.
After Friday, SMU will travel to Houston for a meeting with Rice at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
