Men's Tennis Defeats Colorado 5-2
DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men?s tennis team played tough from the outset to defeated Colorado on Friday, 5-2, to close out their home schedule on a high note. The Mustangs jumped out to the early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point and used their depth in singles to hold off the Buffaloes to get the win. SMU?s record improves to 13-9 with the victory.
The No. 1 duo of Paul McNaughton and Federico Murgier outlasted Digliodo and Tsuda to win 8-6 and gave SMU the early advantage. After falling at No. 2, Gwinyai Chingoka and David Kuczer rallied to win at No. 3, taking the tie-breaker 10-8 and winning 9-8.
The Ponies continued their determined play in singles and notched strong wins at Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6 to grab the win. McNaughton improved to 8-3 at No. 1 with his 7-6, 7-5 win over Zelezng. Peter Oredsson won for the 10th time at No. 4 winning in straight sets over Digliodo 6-3, 6-4, while Kuczer won the decisive match for SMU and his 16th overall on the year, dispatching of Tsuda 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6.
The men?s tennis team returns to the court when they travel to Waco, Texas, on Sat., Apr. 10, to take on the No. 1 Baylor Bears. Tennis action against Baylor begins at 6 p.m.
