Men's Tennis Defeats UTA 5-1 After Rain Delay
DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men?s tennis team won for the second straight match on Wednesday, defeating UT-Arlington, 5-1, at Haggar Tennis Stadium. Rainy weather moved into the area late in the afternoon and both coaches agreed to only play out the singles matches. The Mavericks then put up a fight, but could not overcome the depth of the Mustangs. SMU?s record stands at 12-9.
Senior Paul McNaughton improved to 7-3 at the No. 1 spot, dispatching of Sandy Farguharson 6-4, 7-5. At No. 3, Federico Murgier had the easiest match of the afternoon winning 6-2, 6-3 and is now 5-1 at that position. Peter Oredsson and Henrick Soderberg both won for the third straight time at Nos. 4 and 5. Oredsson is 22-9 overall and 9-3 at No. 4, while Soderberg improved to 3-0 at No. 5. Freshman David Kuczer continued his steady play at No. 6 with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Felipe Acosta to improve to 15-5 on the season.
The men?s tennis team will seek its third straight win this Friday, April 8, when they host Colorado at 2 p.m.
