DALLAS (SMU) - Newly-ranked Arturs Kazijevs and the rest of the SMU Mustangs will play host to Marquette, Oklahoma State and Idaho at the Samuell Grand Tennis Center this week. SMU will play Marquette on Friday at noon, Oklahoma State on Saturday at noon, and 61st-ranked Idaho at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Kazijevs re-entered the ITA rankings at No. 124 on Tuesday. The sophomore is 6-4 in singles this season and has won two consecutive matches, including defeating then-No. 34 Winston Lin of Columbia in straight sets. Kazijevs is also nationally ranked in doubles with Mischa Nowicki at 75th.
The Mustangs are 4-7 on the year and are coming off a tight loss to No. 32 Columbia on March 19.
SMU will take on Marquette on Friday at noon. The Golden Eagles are 8-10 this spring and will be coming off a match at UT Arlington on Thursday. Marquette won five of its first six matches this spring, but has lost its last four.
The Mustangs will challenge Oklahoma State on Saturday at noon. Oklahoma State is 8-7 after dropping a match against San Diego on Saturday. The Cowboys were ranked 72nd in the nation heading into their weekend in San Diego, but have since fallen out of the rankings.
Capping off the weekend will be a match against No. 61 Idaho on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Vandals are 17-2 on the season and split a pair of matches this past weekend at the Boise State Invitational, losing to Boise State and defeating Utah.
All three matches will be played at the Samuell Grand Tennis Center. Admission is free.
