TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - After winning three of their last four matches, the SMU Mustangs will take on the 15th-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane at the Case Tennis Center on Sunday at noon.
The Mustangs are fresh off a thrilling 4-3 home win over Tulane on Saturday. The Mustangs took the doubles point and Arturs Kazijevs, Mischa Nowicki and Nate Lammons all won their singles matches to give SMU the victory. With his strong performance, sophomore Kazijevs took Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Tulsa will play at No. 64 Oklahoma State on Friday before returning home to host the Mustangs on Sunday. Tulsa most recently defeated then-No. 21 Michigan on the road, 5-2. The 6-5 Golden Hurricane have beaten three top-25 squads this spring while each of its opponents have been ranked in the top-60.
SMU will have its work cut out for it to beat a tough Tulsa group, but the Mustangs are confident and improving.
"The team is in good shape," Kazijevs said. "We just have to believe in ourselves that we can beat any other team."
Tulsa boasts two top-100 singles players in Japie De Klerk (No. 52) and Clifford Marsland (No. 84). Both players have won three matches against ranked opponents this season.
The Mustangs will return home Tuesday to host Radford at noon.
