SMU will return home to Dallas to host Nicholls State on Friday at 2 p.m. and Cleveland State at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Bent Tree Country Club. The Mustangs are currently undefeated in Dallas, going 3-0 so far this spring.

Nicholls State is 6-5 this season and boast the No. 82-ranked singles player in the nation in Nico Mertens. Mertens is 8-2 this spring, with a 3-1 record at No. 1 singles and a 5-1 mark at No. 2. Of Nicholls State’s five losses, three came against ranked teams (at No. 9 Texas A&M, at No. 73 Tulane and at No. 75 Presbyterian). Lukas Clemens is 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Sam Meessen is 6-1 at No. 5. In doubles, Mertens has paired with Partha Adavelly to go 6-3 this spring.
The match will mark the second meeting between the programs, with Nicholls State winning 4-3 in Dallas last season on Jan. 20, 2013. Alex Sanders and Mischa Nowicki won singles matches in the loss.

The Vikings are 7-4 this spring and have won six matches in a row. Cleveland State has not lost since Feb. 7, rattling off wins four wins by scores of 6-1 and one 7-0 sweep of Oberlin during the stretch. Will knows about this school. Norris Cole. Matt Kuelker holds the Vikings’ top singles record at 9-2, while Manuel Bellutti is at 8-2 and Joe Vanmeter is 8-3.
This match will mark the first ever between the two programs.

The SMU Mustangs hold an 8-3 record in No. 6 singles, their top mark for any singles spot. Nate Lammons is 4-1 when playing at six, while freshmen Juliio Olaya (2-0) and Arkidjas Slobodkins (2-1) have also garnered strong results at the position. Lammons also played solid tennis at No. 6 last season, going 9-5 in 2013 to total a 13-6 record over his two seasons.

SMU has two players that hail from Riga, Latvia - junior Arturs Kazijevs and freshman Arkidjas Slobodkins. Kazijevs began the season nationally ranked in singles and currently holds a 6-4 record, playing nine matches at the No. 1 spot. Slobodkins began his collegiate career in January, and won six of his first seven matches. Last season, Kazijevs earned First Team All-Conference USA honors and ended the 2012-13 season ranked 108th in the nation.

Arturs Kazijevs, Alex Sanders, Mischa Nowicki, Nate Lammons and Eduardo Razzeto all return for the Mustangs this season. Kazijevs finished 2012-13 ranked in the ITA top 125 in singles, earning First Team All-Conference USA honors. Kazijevs and Nowicki teamed up to earn a second team spot in doubles. Sanders and Nowicki are the only seniors on the team. Joining the team. Tony Russell will make his spring debut after redshirting last season, and both Julio Olaya and Arkidjas Slobodkins will join the roster as freshmen.
