Men's Tennis Upsets VCU 4-3

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men?s tennis team upset No. 27 VCU on Sunday afternoon at Haggar Tennis Stadium 4-3. SMU grabbed the early lead when they won the doubles point and then captured singles wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 5 in straight sets for the victory. SMU improves to 7-3 on the season with the win.

The No. 2 doubles pairing of Henrik Soderberg and Peter Oredsson got things rolling for SMU when they downed Arumi and Lacombe 8-5. Paul McNaughton and Federico Murgier clinched the point moments later with an 8-6 win at No. 1.

In singles, the Mustangs showed their depth with wins at the bottom of the lineup. No. 3 McNaughton, No. 4 Oredsson and No. 5 Murgier all were victorious in straight sets and got the remaining three points needed for the win.

The men's tennis team is back in action on Wed. afternoon March 9, when they host No. 1 Baylor at 2 p.m.
