DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men’s tennis team suffered a tough defeat to Pepperdine Saturday afternoon 6-1. The match, which originally began at 12 p.m., was delayed twice during doubles play because of rain. Once doubles was completed, the match was postponed until 5 p.m. and was moved to Brookhaven Country Club. Down 1-0, the Mustangs put up a strong effort at Brookhaven, but only managed to grab one singles win.
Junior Peter Oredsson had the only SMU win on the rainy afternoon at No. 4 when he defeated Richard Johnson 6-3, 6-3. At Nos. 5 and 6 singles the Mustangs put up valiant efforts, but came up just short in three sets. Federico Murgier dropped his match to Ivor Lourae 4-6, 6-2, 4-6 and freshman David Keuzer also came up short 6-4, 5-7, 6-7.
SMU’s record falls to 6-3 with the loss.
The men’s tennis team returns to action Sunday afternoon, March 6, when they host VCU at 12 p.m.
