DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs will host UTSA in its home opener on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Bent Tree Country Club. SMU will complete its weekend on the road at No. 9 Texas A&M on Sunday at noon.

SMU is coming off its second win of the season, coming from behind to defeat Florida Gulf Coast on the road, 4-3, on Jan. 24. UTSA is 0-2, dropping two matches to ranked opponents to begin the spring. The Roadrunners lost at No. 51 Texas Tech, 5-2, on Jan. 18 and then lost to No. 11 Texas A&M, 6-1, on Jan. 25. Texas A&M is ranked ninth in the nation, holding a 4-0 record. The Aggies have won four matches at home to begin the season, only dropping two total points.

"They're both tough teams," SMU Head Coach Carl Neufeld said. "UTSA had a good fall and they'll be very successful this year. Texas A&M is regularly ranked in the top-10 and this year is no different. This will be an exciting and challenging weekend for us."

SMU junior Arturs Kazijevs paces SMU in singles and is ranked 73rd in the nation. Kazijevs is currently 10-6 for the 2013-14 season after going 8-4 in the fall. Freshman Arkidjas Slobodkins has won three straight singles matches, including a win in his first match at the No. 5 position last Friday. Nate Lammons and Alex Sanders are 1-1 this spring in doubles, coming off a 10-3 fall campaign. The duo is currently ranked eighth in the region.

SMU has won four straight matches against UTSA, with the most recent being a 4-3 win on March 5, 2011. Texas A&M has won the last three matches in the series, with the Mustangs' last win over the Aggies being a 4-3 victory on May 17, 1998.

The Bent Tree Country Club is located about 20 minutes north of SMU's campus just off the Dallas North Tollway.
