FORT MYERS, Fla. (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs will head to Fort Myers, Fla., for the third straight season to play Florida Gulf Coast on Friday at 4 p.m. SMU has won the previous two meetings.

SMU is coming off its second weekend of the season, going 1-1 in two matches in Tulsa, Okla., on Sunday and Monday. The Mustangs defeated Illinois State, 4-1, on Sunday morning then dropped a 4-1 result to No. 30 Drake on Monday.

Florida Gulf Coast is 0-2 to start the spring, losing twice in Tallahassee, Fla., on Saturday and Sunday. The Eagles are led by Jordi Vives, who is ranked 66th in the nation in singles with a 16-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark at the No. 1 position this spring. Vives, a transfer from USC, advanced to the ITA Regional quarterfinals in the fall.

"We're excited to play another tough team," SMU Head Coach Carl Neufeld said. "We know their top player is very good. Were excited to see the guys continue to improve."

The Mustangs are led in singles by Arturs Kazijevs, who is currently ranked 10th in the state of Texas and 73rd nationally.Nate Lammons and Alex Sanders are undefeated in doubles in the spring and boast an 11-3 overall record, earning them a No. 8 ranking in the Texas region. Arkidjas Slobodkins, a freshman, has won two straight singles matches at the No. 6 position for the Mustangs.

SMU has won the previous two meetings with the Eagles by final scores of 6-1. SMU won the doubles point each year, sweeping all three doubles matches in 2012. Kazijevs defeated Vives last season in straight sets to help propel the Mustangs to the victory.
