DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men?s tennis team opened the season with a shutout win over the Lamar Cardinals on Monday, 7-0. The Mustangs clinched the doubles point to begin the day and never looked back.

Gwinyai Chingoka and Alex Skrypko got things started for the Mustangs winning their doubles match 8-6. Peter Oredsson and David Kuezer also were victorious in doubles, 8-2, to give SMU the 1-0 advantage.

The dominance continued in singles play, as the Ponies cruised and swept their matches. Paul McNaughton won in the number one spot 6-0, 6-2 over Emilio Kirby. Chingoka and Oredsson played in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots and both collected straight-set victories. Federico Murgier had the toughest match of the day, needing a tie-breaker to defeat Dean Clower 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (6).

SMU will also face Centenary Monday, Jan. 17, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Hagar Tennis Stadium.
