Mustangs Advance Two In Singles, One Pair In Doubles At ITA Regionals

WACO, Texas (SMU) - Alex Sanders and Arturs Kazijevs advanced to the round of 32 in singles, while Sanders and Nate Lammons moved on to the round of 16 at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships in Waco, Texas, on Saturday.

Sanders received a first round bye in singles and then defeated Josip Smoljan in the round of 64, 6-3; 6-1. Sanders will face No. 106 Arnau Dachs of TCU tomorrow in the round of 32.

Kazijevs, who was the fifth overall seed, also received a first round bye, and followed it up with a 6-1; 6-1, victory over Michael Morris of Abilene Christian. Kazijevs will take on Phillip Seifert of Rice in the round of 32 tomorrow.

Sanders and Lammons were also the fifth seed in doubles, earning a first round bye. The duo then defeated David Warren and Zach Yablon of Rice, 8-4, earning a round of 16 matchup with Hugo Dojas and Maxime Hinnisdaels of Texas Tech.

Julio Olaya picked up one win in singles, defeating Gustavo Gonzalez of Rice, 5-7; 6-2; 7-5. Olaya fell in the round of 32 to No. 60 Mate Zsiga of Baylor in straight sets, 6-0; 6-1.
