No. 65 Mustangs Fall To USF, 4-3

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs had a 3-1 lead over USF, but the Bulls rallied to take the final three singles matches to defeat SMU 4-3 in South Bend, Ind. on Sunday afternoon.
75th-ranked Arturs Kazijevs and doubles partner Mischa Nowicki got the match started on the right foot for SMU (8-9), defeating Oliver Pramming and Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz, 8-5. Gaston Cuadranti and Alex Sanders clinched the doubles point for the Mustangs, beating Federico Sabogal and Juan Acuna Gerard, 8-6. Kazijevs and Nowicki are now won six straight matches and are 10-4 overall. Cuadranti and Sanders are 7-3 on the season.
USF (8-9) knotted the score at 1-1 with a quick singles victory at the No. 6 position, but SMU countered with two singles victories of their own. No. 124 Kazijevs defeated Prammin 7-6, 6-1 and Nowicki beat Sabogal 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. Kazijevs is 11-5 overall and 8-2 in his last 10 matches while Nowicki is undefeated in his last five singles decisions.
Facing defeat, USF then won the next three singles matches to take the victory, 4-3.
The Mustangs will host UT Arlington on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Samuell Grand Tennis Center.
