SMU Falls At TCU, 4-2

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) - Junior Arturs Kazijevs picked up a huge win over No. 46 Nick Chappell and sophomore Nate Lammons also picked up a victory in singles, but it was not enough as SMU dropped a tough road match at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, on Tuesday evening.
Kazijevs won in three sets over Chappell; 6-4, 3-6, 10-5. Kazjievs now has four wins over ranked opponents this season. Chappell also has won against four ranked foes, and the junior entered the match with 19 wins overall. Lammons won in straight sets at No. 6 singles over Andres Alfonzo; 6-4, 7-6 (5). Lammons leads SMU (9-10) with 10 wins in dual matches and holds a 5-2 record at the sixth position.
TCU (10-9), which entered the match ranked 56th nationally, took the opening doubles point with close victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. 16th-ranked Chappell and Will Stein narrowly topped Mischa Nowicki and Arkidjas Slobodkins, 8-7 (5) at No. 1 and the Horned Frogs duo of Hudson Blake and Facundo Lugones beat Kazijevs and Tony Russell, 8-7 (3), at No. 3. Chapell and Stein hold five wins over ranked doubles pairs this season.
The Horned Frogs won singles matches at Nos. 3-5 in straight sets, while the battle at No. 2 between Alex Sanders and Lugones went unfinished after each player won one set.
SMU will return to the court with a match at No. 23 Oklahoma State on Sunday at noon CT. The Mustangs will then return home for their last home match on April 9 versus UT Arlington at 3 p.m. CT.
