DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis dropped a close match today falling 4-3 to No. 42 Rice at Northwood Country Club. With the loss, the Mustangs moved to 8-8 on the season and 2-1 in Conference USA, while Rice improved to 14-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

SMU got off to a strong start, taking the first two doubles matches to claim the first point of the afternoon. The Mustang teams of Tobias Flood and Arturs Kazijevs at No. 2 and Robert Lambeth and Joseph Hattrup at No. 3 earned the squad a 1-0 lead with 8-4 and 8-6 wins, respectively.

Despite the lead, Rice picked up wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 in singles play to earn the victory. Kazijevs picked up his team-leading 10th singles victory of the season over Peter Frank at No. 3 in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 10-3. Robert Sajovich earned his fifth win at No. 6 defeating Philipp Seifert in straight sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

SMU hosts Memphis on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT, at Northwood Country Club.
