DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men’s tennis team dropped its second dual match of the season to a ranked opponent, falling to No. 49 Santa Clara, 7-0, at the Jewish Community Center.

After losing the doubles point, Santa Clara sealed the victory by way of a retirement and three straight-set matches. With the outcome already in hand, Gaston Cuadranti and Mischa Nowicki continued to fight for the Mustangs, pushing their matches past a second set. Nowicki eventually dropped his third set, 6-2, to Nicolas Vinel in the No. 3 singles flight, while Kyle Dandan outlasted Cuadranti, 10-8, in a supertiebreaker in the No. 1 flight.

SMU (3-2) will take a week off before heading to Santa Barbara, Calif., to face No. 62 UC Santa Barbara (4-2) on Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. CT.
