Mustangs Drop Match To No. 30 Drake, 4-1

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - SMU freshman Arkidjas Slobodkins won his second career singles match in his third match at the No. 6 position, but No. 30 Drake was too strong over the course of the match, beating the Mustangs, 4-1, in Tulsa, Okla., on Monday.
Slobodkins, a native of Riga, Latvia, made his collegiate debut on Jan. 11 at No. 20 Texas, and is now 2-1 on the season. Slobodkins defeated Ben Mullis, who went 28-6 last season and was ranked in the ITA Top 125 for parts of 2012-13, 6-0; 6-4.
Drake won in both the first and third positions to take the opening doubles point. The Bulldogs then won in the No. 1-3 positions in singles to take the victory.
Drake featured the top-ranked doubles team in the ITA central region rankings, Ravi Patel and Robin Goodman. The duo is also ranked eighth nationally. In all, five Bulldogs are ranked in the top 20 in the central.
SMU's next match will be on Friday at Florida Gulf Coast. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m. CST.
