DALLAS (SMU) - The No. 39 SMU men's tennis team began their season with a victory against Lamar this afternoon, 6-1.

David Kuczer and Chris Hooshyar paired for a win at the No. 2 doubles position over Mario Janjic and Andres Medina, 8-5. Sealing the doubles point for the Mustangs, Oivind Alver and Adolfo Solares held off Brett Sticker and Tyler Cobb of Lamar at No. 3 for the 8-6 win.

In singles action, Alex Skrypko dominated Filip Kanczula at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 3 spot, Alver paced for a, 6-0, 6-0, win over Maciej Bogusz while Hooshyar coasted to a, 6-1, 6-2, win over Medina at the No. 4 spot. Solares took a win over Olivier at the No. 5 position, 6-2, 6-3 and Robin Fahgen of SMU swept Sticker, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot. Kuczer was unable to overcome Janjic at the No. 2 spot as he fell, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2.

The Mustangs face No. 12 Texas next on, Sun., Jan. 21 at 2:00 p.m. The match is scheduled to be played at the Dallas Country Club.
