Hetland Wins At World Championships

ISTANBUL (SMU) - SMU men's swimming alum Alex Hetland is the 50-meter breaststroke 2012 World Champion after winning the event at the 2012 FINA Short Course World Swimming Championships. Hetland, a 2008 graduate, swam the event in a time of 26.30.

Senior Mindaugas Sadauskas also competed in the championships, earning a pair of 16th-place finishes in the 100-meter freestyle (48.50) and the 100-meter individual medley (54.85). His preliminary times of 47.82 and 54.43, respectively, were lifetime-best marks. The sprint specialist was 23rd in the 50-meter butterfly (23.86), 23rd in the 50-meter freestyle (22.01) and 28th in the 50-meter backstroke (24.70). His times in the butterfly and backstroke were also personals bests.
