Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Second Place at Aggie Invite

COLLEGE STATION (SMU) - The SMU men?s swimming & diving team finished with 975 points in the 2004 Aggie Invitational, good for a second place finish just behind the host Aggies. Senior co-captains Beau Sydes and Ferdi Postma each won events during the final day.

Sydes took home first place in the platform diving competition with a score of 463.10, almost 40 points ahead of the second place finisher. Postma finished first in the 1650 free with a time of 15:55.58.

Other Mustang winners included Camilo Becerra and Justin Smith. Becerra (1:51.27) and Smith (1:52.63) took home the top two spots in the 200 fly.

In the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay, the top team of Becerra, J.D. White, Per Nylin and Postma finished second, just one second behind the top team from Texas A&M.

The Aggies won the 2004 title with 1,332 points. Following the Mustangs (975) in third was LSU (704), followed by Louisiana-Monroe (699).

The SMU men?s swimming & diving team will return to the water Dec. 3-5, when they travel to Austin, Texas, to participate in the UT Invite.
