FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior divers Devin Burnett and Hayden Hodges finished first and second in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, respectively, as the SMU men's swimming and diving team fell to TCU, 177.5-122.5 in SMU's first event of the season.

"We weren't very sharp tonight," head coach Eddie Sinnott said. "But we are doing the things right now we need to be doing to be great in February."

In addition to Burnett, SMU placed first in three other races.

The Ponies won the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of seniors Matt Roney, Ramom Melo, Ryan Koops and sophomore Justin Gibson finished with a time of 3:04.28.

Koops and Melo earned the Mustangs other first place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (46.74) and the 50-yard freestyle (21.10), respectively.

SMU placed second in the 200-yard medley relay as seniors Matthew Napier-Jameson, Braeden Newton, Koops and Melo recorded at time of 1:35.01. Classmate Matt Roney finished runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle clocking in at 1:41.82 while senior Tyler Rauth placed finished second in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:53.75.

Senior Julian Fletcher and Napier-Jameson finished second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.85 and 59.02, respectively.

"We will continue to work hard and do things necessary to get better," Sinnott said. "We now have a baseline for the season going forward."

SMU returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 21 when it travels to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Invitational. The event concludes on Saturday, Nov. 23.
