MESA, Ariz. (SMU) - Senior Julian Fletcher is the lone Mustang to travel to Mesa, Arizona this weekend to compete in the Mesa Arena Grand Prix. The meet started on Thursday and concludes today. Fletcher competed in 50-meter freestyle on Friday and the 100-meter breaststroke on Saturday. The senior recorded times of 25.03 and 1:06.83 in the preliminaries of each race, respectively.

Fletcher had a strong senior season as he placed seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke and eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke at the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships. In addition, the senior earned his best finishes of the season in a dual meet at TCU when he finished runner-up in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke races.

Recapping the season, SMU had 11 student-athletes named to the 2014 All-American Athletic Conference men's swimming and diving team. They were seniors Nicolai Hansen, Ryan Koops, Ramom Melo and Matt Roney, juniors Matas Andriekus, Devin Burnett, Hayden Hodges and Tyler Rauth, sophomore Eastman Holloway and freshmen Ziga Cerkovnik and Bryce Klein. The accolades came from three diving events, two swimming races and four relay races. In addition to earning this accolade, Burnett was named the 2014 Most Outstanding Diver as he placed first in the one-meter (386.80), three-meter (389.45) and platform dives (399.65).

Head Diving Coach Jim Stillson was named the AAC's Diving Coach of the Year as Hodges and Klein recorded outstanding performances in addition to Burnett at the Championships.

SMU placed second at the inaugural American Championships but had won a conference championship in 16 of the previous 17 seasons.
