Junior Devin Burnett Wins The 1-Meter Dive On Day One Of The American Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (SMU) – Junior diver Devin Burnett claimed SMU’s first American Athletic Conference individual title as he placed first (386.80) in the 1-meter dive as the SMU men's swimming and diving team competed on the first day of competition at the inaugural American Championships. The four-day meet is hosted by Louisville in the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
The Mustangs have 131 points and stand first of four teams following day one.
In the relay events for the Mustangs, seniors Ramom Melo and Nicolai Hansen, junior Matas Andriekus and freshman Ziga Cerkovnik competed in the 200-yard medley relay and finished runner-up with a time of 1:27.26. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the group of seniors Nicolai Hansen, Matt Roney, Tyler Rauth and sophomore Eastman Holloway placed third as they clocked a time of 6:34.26.
SMU is back in action tomorrow to compete on day two of Championships on Thurs., Feb. 20 with the prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
