DALLAS (SMU) - Diver Devin Burnett continued his dominating sophomore season with an impressive win in the three-meter dive as the SMU men's swimming and diving team closed out competition in The Classic @ SMU Saturday night at Perkins Natatorium. Burnett took gold in the event with 334.75 points, narrowly edging Jack Lee of Michigan (332.85). With his performance in the three-meter and his third-place finish in the one-meter, Burnett was named the high-point diver of the meet.
No. 5 USC won the highly-competitive Classic with 330 points. Top-ranked Michigan was a close second (327 points) followed by No. 7 Florida (318). No. 16 Louisville placed fourth (249), Purdue was fifth (226) and SMU finished sixth (223).
Senior captain Mindaugas Sadauskas earned runner-up honors in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 43.82.
The Mustangs head to College Station, Texas, for a meet against Texas A&M at 7 p.m. on Friday.
