DALLAS (SMU) -- Redshirt sophomore forward Will Smith has been named as a first team CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 selection. He now qualifies for the national CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.
Smith, who majors in business-finance, has been on the SMU Honor Roll for four consecutive semesters on the Hilltop beginning in the fall of 2011. In addition, Smith has been the Conference USA Commissioners Academic Medal Recipient for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years.
On the field in 2013, Smith is having his best season on the Hilltop yet. He has appeared in 14 matches including seven as a starter where he is tied for second on the team with two assists. Smith has also recorded 11 shots with four of them being on goal.
Smith competed in 19 contests as a redshirt freshman in 2012 while starting four matches. Statistically, Smith tallied one point on one assist in a 3-2 victory over Harvard on Sept. 9, 2012. Smith also had 11 shots, including four on goal for the season. SMU finished with a 10-5-5 overall record and qualified for the NCAA tournament.
The Mustangs are back in action for their final regular season game against UConn on Nov. 2. SMU's seven seniors will be honored at the match. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT. Find live stats and video at SMUMustangs.com.
