de ALMEIDA NAMED C-USA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MUSTANGS FALL TO BLAZERS
SMU was defeated by UAB, 1-0, Wednesday night at Westcott Field. The Blazers recorded the game's only tally in the 39th minute following a corner kick.
SMU had several scoring chances, many missing by just inches. Sophomore Robbie Derschang hit a header off of the crossbar following an SMU free kick in the 13th minute. In the 59th minute, de Almeida ran down the left side and fired a shot off of the left post. Senior Arthur Ivo also had a quality chance when he set up for a free kick from 19 yards out in the 80th minute, but he too hit the crossbar.
Mustang goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra had another solid performance in goal, making six saves on the night. de Almeida also saved a UAB goal with his team save on the line in the 84th minute.
THE BEAR NECESSITIES
SMU shut out Missouri State, 1-0, on Oct. 21 at Westcott Field. de Almeida scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute. Following a Missouri State foul, senior Ian Kalis stepped in to take a free kick from 28 yards out. de Almeida was just outside of the six-yard box and deflected Kalis' shot past the Missouri State goalkeeper and in. The tally was de Almeida's fourth of the season.
Ibarra had another strong showing in net as he earned his third clean sheet of the season. He made four stops on the night and intercepted several crosses in the box for the Mustangs.
SMU closes out the regular season by hosting Memphis on Senior Night on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. Last year, the Mustangs shut out the Tigers, 3-0, on goals by Juan Castillo, Ivo and Leone Cruz. Seniors Joe Cooper, de Almeida, Payton Hickey, Ivo, Kalis, Ryan Rosenbaum and Still will be honored before the game.
