de ALMEIDA NAMED C-USA PLAYER OF THE WEEK

THE BEAR NECESSITIES
SMU shut out Missouri State, 1-0, Friday night at Westcott Field. de Almeida scored the game's lone goal in the 60th minute. Following a Missouri State foul, senior Ian Kalis stepped in to take a free kick from 28 yards out. de Almeida was just outside of the six-yard box and deflected Kalis' shot past the Missouri State goalkeeper and in. The tally was de Almeida's fourth of the season.
SMU goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra turned in another strong performance in net as he earned his third clean sheet of the season. Ibarra made four stops on the night and intercepted several crosses in the box for the Mustangs.
YOU STAY CLASSY, SAINT DIOGO
SMU defeated FIU, 2-1, in overtime on Sunday night at Westcott Field. FIU got on the board first with a goal in the 30th minute.
Castillo tied the game at one with his goal in the 59th minute. Redshirt freshman Damian Rosales ran down the right side of the field and sent a cross into the box to Castillo who headed it home. The tally was Castillo's fourth of the season.
de Almeida won the game for SMU with his goal in the 94th minute. After a flurry of chances in front of the net, de Almeida collected an Arthur Ivo rebound and buried the ball from eight yards out. The goal was de Almeida's third of the season and second in as many games.
SMU plays its last road game of the season at Kentucky on Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. The Mustangs downed the Wildcats, 2-0, exactly one year earlier on Senior Night. Josue Soto and Zach Barnes scored for SMU as the Mustangs clinched the 2010 Conference USA regular season crown.
