Vazquez Earns National, Conference Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) -- Leobardo Vazquez was named to the National Team of the Week and was also named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his three-goal performance at league foe Cincinnati.

The South Houston, Texas, native registered his first career hat trick in a 3-1 win at Cincinnati on Saturday to improve the Mustangs’ record to 2-1-1 in league action. The three goals were scored in just over a five minute span to lead SMU to a come-from-behind victory.

He received assists from freshman Deshawon Nembhard, junior Damian Rosales and sophomore Eddie Puskarich.

Vazquez joined 10 other student-athletes from around the country as a member of Top Drawer Soccer's team, and it was the first time a Mustang earned the honor this season.

In addition to these honors, he was also named to's Player of the Week.

Vazquez has played in 11 matches for the Mustangs in 2013 and leads the team, along with fellow sophomore Alfred Koroma, with three goals.
