SMU vs. MARSHALL
SMU holds a 4-2 all-time record against Marshall. The teams last squared off on Oct. 10, 2010, as the the Mustangs defeated the Herd, 2-1, in overtime at Westcott Field. Juan Castillo netted a goal in the 25th minute, and Zach Barnes sealed the win with his overtime game-winning goal in the 95th minute.

CONTROLLING THE `CANES
SMU defeated Tulsa, 2-1, on Oct. 5. Tulsa opened the scoring early with a goal in the seventh minute.
Senior Diogo de Almeida got SMU on the board with his first goal of the year in 26th minute. Senior Arthur Ivo set up for a free kick from 30 yards out and sent his shot off the post to de Almeida was there to knock it home.
Less than four minutes later, Castillo sealed the game with the eventual game-winner. Ivo picked up his second assist of the night after sending a ball into the box to Castillo who volley it into the back of the net from 15 yards out. The goal was Castillo's team-leading third goal of the season and third game-clinching goal of the year.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jaime Ibarra came up huge for SMU, recording seven saves on the night.
MUSTANGS FALL TO NO. 14 UCF
SMU was defeated by No. 14 UCF, 4-2, on Oct. 1. The Knights jumped out to a two-goal lead before junior Ben Hill headed home his first goal of the year on assists from junior T.J. Nelson and Ivo just before the end of the first half.
UCF answered, adding a pair of second-half goals in the 56th and 70th minutes.
Redshirt freshman Damian Rosales netted his second goal of the season in the 74th minute on a feed from Castillo, but the Mustangs came up short in their comeback attempt.
SMU LIVES POSH ON FLIGHT TO CALI WITH BECKS
On the team's trip out of Dallas to Los Angeles, the Mustangs were in elite soccer company as David Beckham was on the same flight as SMU. The LA Galaxy star and former English captain treated the players to several photos. To see the pictures, check out the men's soccer team on

NEXT GAME
SMU finishes its three-game conference road trip on Oct. 12 at South Carolina at 6 p.m. The Gamecocks won the last meeting between the teams, 2-1, in the C-USA semifinals on Nov. 12. During the regular season, the Mustangs defeated the Gamecocks, 3-1, on Oct. 6 with goals from Ivo, Barnes and Josue Soto.
