The Last Meeting
Washington (NIKE/Crescent Financial Solutions Invitational)2
September 16, 2007
Albuquerque, N.M.
No. 3 Men's Soccer Falls 2-0 To No. 24 Washington
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (SMU) - The No. 3 SMU men's soccer team and the No. 24 University of Washington battled through a scoreless first half before the Huskies netted two second-half goals to pull off the upset in the Nike/Crescent Financial Solutions Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M.

Looking Back...

The Mustangs started the 2013 American Athletic Conference season with a 1-0 victory over Rutgers. The American win was the first for SMU in any sport. Sophomore forward Alfred Koroma picked up his second match winner of the season with a goal in the 64th minute to lead the Mustangs. Junior midfielder Andrew Morales was credited with the assist on the play. Senior Jaime Ibarra registered four saves in the net for SMU and picked up his first shutout of the season.

Goalkeeper Of The Week...

Jaime Ibarra was named the American Athletic Conference men's soccer Goalkeeper of the Week, league officials announced on Monday. This is the first such honor for the Dallas native in 2013. In seven matches this season, Ibarra has 16 saves and a 1.14 goals-against-average. Alfred Koroma was named to the conference's honor roll for his match winner in the Rutgers contest. He currently leads SMU with three goals in 2013.

On The Road Again...

The Mustangs were scheduled to play 10 of their 16 regular season contests on the road in 2013. In 2012, SMU played six of its games away from Westcott Field and compiled a 4-2 mark. So far, the Ponies are 1-4 away from the Hilltop this season.

Scouting The Huskies...

No. 5 Washington enters Friday's match with a 5-0-2 record. Its most recent result was a 1-1 draw with Georgia State. GSU was 1-5 entering the match. So far in 2013, UW has also played SMU's Sunday opponent Portland to a 4-0 decision, and American opponent No. 22 UConn to a 0-0 stalemate. Senior Taylor Peay is the Huskies' point leader with eight (4g), while freshman Justin Schmidt and senior Michael Harris each have seven (2g, 3a). With 15 goals and 15 assists this season, 11 players have at least one point. Senior Spencer Richey (3-0-1) and sophomore Ryan Herman (2-0-1) have split time in goal this season and have combined for 25 saves and a .32 goals-against-average. The Huskies have outscored their opponents, 15-2, and have a 74-62 edge in shots.

Series History...

The Mustangs are 2-3-1 all-time against the Huskies. In 2007, then-No. 24 Washington blanked SMU 2-0 at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. The last meeting between the teams in Seattle was a 4-0 setback for the Mustangs at the UW Classic in 1991.

Scouting The Pilots...

Portland is 4-2 heading into the weekend. The Pilots will play a Friday match vs. Denver before taking on the Mustangs on Sunday. In Portland's most recent match, it came away with a 3-0 decision over Oregon State at home. Freshman Eddie Sanchez is the team's offensive leader with eight points (3g, 2a) this season, and the rest of Portland's points are dispersed among nine players. Senior Justin Baarts has seen action in four games between the goalposts and has 11 saves and a 2.07 goals-against-average, while fellow senior Jason Dodson has matched his teammate's 11 saves but has yet to concede a goal. Portland has outshot its opponents, 94-66, and outscores them, 13-8.

Series History...

SMU is 2-0 all-time against the Pilots. The Ponies registered a 1-0 victory over then-No. 3 Portland in 1989, and a 2-1 victory over a then-No. 11 team in 1991. The two teams have never met in Portland.

Looking Ahead...

SMU is in the midst of a three-match road swing and returns to the Hilltop on Oct. 6 to host No. 18 Louisville, with the remainder of the conference season to follow. The regular season closes out on Nov. 2 when No. 22 UConn comes to campus. SMU looks to take the No. 1 seed in the inaugural American Tournament, but will host the semifinals and final in Frisco, Texas, regardless.

Around The Conference...

Memphis (RV), No. 18 Louisville and SMU each kicked off the inaugural American season with a conference victory, while Rutgers, UCF and Cincinnati are 0-1 in league action. Temple, No. 22 UConn and USF have yet to make a conference debut, but Temple is tied for a conference-high five victories.
