Box Score vs. Missouri State
DALLAS (SMU) - The No. 19 SMU men's soccer team played Missouri State to a 1-1 double-overtime draw Sunday night at Westcott Field. Sophomore Tyler Engel scored for the Mustangs. With the tie, SMU is now 9-3-3 on the year.
Missouri State struck first with a goal in the 15th minute. Parker Maher dribbled up field and fired a shot from 30 yards out for a 1-0 Bear lead.
SMU managed to even the score with just 2:31 remaining in regulation. Sophomore Damian Rosales dribbled down the right flank, cut a defender and made a cross to Engel. Engel then shook two defenders and shot the ball from 20 yards out. The goal was Engel's team-leading seventh tally of the season.
The Mustangs had several chances in the two overtimes, but the best opportunity came on a shot by freshman Michael King that was saved by a Missouri State defender on the goal line in the 106th minute.
SMU closes out the home portion of the regular season against Marshall on Oct. 28 at noon. Seniors Ben Hill, T.J. Nelson, Juan Robles and Ryan Rosenbaum will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
