DALLAS (SMU) - The No. 19 SMU men's soccer team played Missouri State to a 1-1 double-overtime draw Sunday night at Westcott Field. Sophomore Tyler Engel scored for the Mustangs. With the tie, SMU is now 9-3-3 on the year.
Missouri State struck first with a goal in the 15th minute. Parker Maher dribbled up field and fired a shot from 30 yards out for a 1-0 Bear lead.
SMU managed to even the score with just 2:31 remaining in regulation. Sophomore Damian Rosales dribbled down the right flank, cut a defender and made a cross to Engel. Engel then shook two defenders and shot the ball from 20 yards out. The goal was Engel's team-leading seventh tally of the season.
The Mustangs had several chances in the two overtimes, but the best opportunity came on a shot by freshman Michael King that was saved by a Missouri State defender on the goal line in the 106th minute.
