Head Coach Tim McClements
Sept. 11, 2011
TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU men's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 3 Connecticut during the final day of the Hurricane Classic at the Hurricane Soccer Complex. The Mustangs are now 2-3, while the Huskies improve to 5-0.
"It was an unfortunate result against a very good team," head coach Tim McClements said. "I thought we played really well; our guys did a great job. We lost to a very good UConn team. We have to keep our chin up and move on, because there's no problem with the way we played. It just didn't go our way today."
The Huskies scored the game's lone goal on a free kick by Max Wasserman from 25 yards out in the 76th minute.
The game was a defensive battle, with most of the time spent playing in the midfield. Each team only recorded five shots a piece, with Connecticut taking a 2-1 advantage in shots on frame.
The Mustangs return to Dallas to host the SMU Classic Presented by Jason's Deli Sept. 16-18. SMU plays Dartmouth Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m. before taking on #23 Washington Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. Tulsa will also compete in the tournament.
"It'll be great to be home after being on the road for so long," McClements said. "It's always great to play in front of our home fans. We'll be playing two very good teams in Dartmouth and Washington, so it's going to be a great tournament."
Season tickets are on sale now for $24. Individual game tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Blocks of 50 or more tickets are $1 apiece. Tickets can be purchased online at SMUMustangs.com or by calling 214-SMU-GAME (214-768-4263).
