HOUSTON (SMU) - The SMU men's soccer team fell, 2-0, at the hands of the 2013 Eastern Conference Finalist Houston Dynamo on Saturday at Methodist Champions Field at Houston Sports Park.

"I was very pleased with the way the team played," Head Coach Tim McClements said. "The Houston Dynamo are obviously an excellent team."

The Dynamo started the scoring in the 16th minute off a penalty kick from Sito Seoane, and secured the victory with a second half Brad Davis goal.

SMU was able to create an offensive attack that threatened the Dynamo defense with numerous dangerous chances from sophomores Will Smith and Brenden Lee.

On the defensive end, freshmen Caleb Underwood and Michael Nelson shared time in goal for SMU, both turning in quality performances for the Ponies.

"We had to be extremely disciplined in our defensive organization and I thought we did that," McClements added. "We also wanted to build, possess, generate opportunities and ultimately give them a competitive game. Our young team continues to grow and develop, but there is still a lot of work to be done."

The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to San Antonio to take on the San Antonio Scorpions at Toyota Field. The NASL regular season champion Scorpions fell in the United States' second tier soccer league's semifinals last season. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
