Gary Hunter begins his first year as the Mustangs' volunteer coach and comes to the Hilltop via the Pacific Northwest area, specifically Seattle-Tacoma, Wash.
He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Skagit Valley Community College in 1984. In the last 18 years, he has worked as a high school head coach at various schools in the greater Seattle -Tacoma area, including one season (2000) as the head coach at Shoreline Community College. Hunter's most recent coaching stint was at Ballard High School (Seattle, Wash.) where he served as head coach the last seven years. Hunter holds an NSCAA Premier Diploma.
As a player, Hunter was a two-year transfer into Division II powerhouse, Seattle Pacific University, which won five Division II national soccer championships under the guidance of head coach Cliff McCrath's 34-year tenure. In 1986, Hunter also played one season with the Seattle Storm in the start up of the APSL. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education from Seattle Pacific University in 1984 and a Master's in Sports Administration from Grambling State University in 1987.
Originally from Seattle, Hunter is married to Nancy and resides in Dallas.
