DALLAS (SMU) - SMU head men's golf coach Josh Gregory recently received his 2011 Dave Williams award as the National Coach of the Year. The award was presented to him during the Hall of Fame Banquet at the annual GCAA National Convention. It was the second-straight year he has earned the award.

Gregory, an SMU alumnus and 2010 GCAA and Golfweek National Coach of the Year, was named SMU's head men's golf coach on June 11. Since his arrival on the Hilltop, he's led the Mustangs to three top four finishes during the fall season. With his tireless work ethic on the recruiting trail, the first-year coach landed one of the top recruiting classes in the nation by adding David Lee, Maxime Blandin, Ryan Burgess, Bryson Dechambeau and Austin Smotherman to the SMU roster, all of whom rank in the top 75 of 2012 class, including Lee who is the top ranked golfer in Texas and sixth nationally.

Gregory returned to his alma mater after leading Augusta State to back-to-back NCAA Championships in 2010 and 2011. His Jaguar squad was the first team to win back-to-back titles since Houston in 1984-85. The Jaguars also won the General Jim Hackler Championship and had four runner-up finishes. Augusta State would only finish outside the top five three times in 11 tournaments. Jaguar golfers Patrick Reed and Henrik Norlander earned PING All-America honors this season under Gregory's tutelage.
