DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs men's golf team signed two players for the class of 2014, SMU Head Coach Josh Gregory announced.

Ben Baxter of Flower Mound, Texas, and Ryan Gronlund of Pleasanton, Calif., will join the Mustangs next season and will look to contribute right away.

"We are very excited about the signings of both Ben and Ryan," Gregory said. "They will provide us great depth and should make an immediate impact for our program next fall. They both are also excellent students as well. We look forward to them becoming Mustangs, as they will be great assets to our program and our goals of competing for national championships."

Baxter is ranked 13th overall in the class of 2014 by GolfWeek Magazine, including second in the state of Texas. He competed in the 2013 U.S. Amateur Championships and won the Texas Junior Golf Tour TPC Four Seasons Invite. Baxter earned a total of three top-10 finishes in AJGA events, and took fifth at the 2013 HP Byron Nelson Junior.

Gronlund is ranked 83rd in the class of 2014 by the Junior Golf Scoreboard, and has recorded three top-10 results in AJGA events, including a runner-up finish at the AJGA Junior at Centennial. The 2012 FCWT First Team All-American placed 22nd at the Junior PGA Championship, and also took fifth at the NCGA NoCal/SoCal Championship.

SMU will come back from its winter break with a trip to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, for the Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 23-25.
