DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU Mustangs men's golf team added two to its 2013-14 roster on Wednesday, with No. 24 ranked recruit Andrew Buchanan and Alex Higgs (brother of current SMU junior Harry) both declaring their desire to play on the Hilltop.

Buchanan, a native of Los Altos Hills, Calif., won the CIF/Central Coast Section championship in 2011, firing a round of 64 to cruise to victory. Buchanan also has an AJGA win under his belt, at the 2011 Stockton Convention and Visitors Bureau Junior Open. In all, Buchanan has eight top-15 finishes in AJGA events. For his efforts in 2011, Buchanan received the San Mateo Daily Journal Boy's Golfer of the Year award.

Higgs joins SMU from Overland Park, Kan., where he will join his brother in hopes for success in 2013-14. The younger Higgs has three top-40 finishes in AJGA events in 2012, and has a career-best finish of eighth at the 2010 Junior All-Star at the Rail in Springfield, Ill.

"Both of these players give us a strong 2013 class to follow up the class of 2012 which was ranked as the top class in the nation," Head Coach Josh Gregory said. "They will both help us reach our goal of contending for and potentially winning national championships."

SMU's 2012 class included Bryson Dechambeau, Austin Smotherman, Ryan Burgess, David Lee and Maxime Blandin, all of whom have played in at least two tournaments this season. Dechambeau is currently ranked No. 66 in the nation individually according to the GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings.
