PINEHURST, N.C. (SMU) - SMU and Wake Forest will converge upon the famous Pinehurst No. 2 golf course for the Payne Stewart Invitational on Tuesday for a 36-hole, one-day event.
Sixteen golfers, nine from Wake Forest and seven from SMU, will compete. This year marks the second attempt at the event, which was supposed to begin last season between the two programs but was cancelled due to heavy rain.
"It's a truly special event," Head Coach Josh Gregory said. "What a way to honor Payne Stewart at one of the finest venues in all of golf. This is an incredible treat for our players."
Eighteen holes of stroke play will start the day, with a six-count-five scoring format. Then the two teams will play 18 holes of match play in the afternoon. Bryson Dechambeau, Austin Smotherman, Ryan Burgess, Maxime Blandin, Harry Higgs, Alex Higgs and Andrew Buchanan will represent SMU at the event.
Live stats will not be available on Tuesday, but complete results and scores will be available at the end of the day on SMUMustangs.com.
