BROOKLINE, Mass. (SMU) - SMU sophomore Bryson Dechambeau lost in the second round of match play at the 113th U.S. Amateur Championships at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. Kent State senior Corey Conners clinched the match with a birdie on the par-four 17th hole.
Dechambeau was two-up through 11 holes, but bogeys on 12 and 13 drew the match to all square. Conners two birdies on 14 and 17 were enough to seal the win.
Dechambeau defeated Sean Yu in the first round on Wednesday, never trailing in the match. The Clovis, Calif., native finished stroke play at two-under, tying him for sixth out of 312 entrants.
The Mustangs begin their 2013-14 campaign on Sept. 13 at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational in Chicago. The three-day event will conclude on Sept. 15.
