DALLAS (SMU) - Incoming freshman Bryson Dechambeau is in the hunt at the U.S. Amateur Championships at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., after shooting a 4-under 67 on day one.
Dechambeau is currently in eighth in the tournament. The Clovis, Calif., native is just one golfer out of a very strong recruiting class that is heading to SMU this fall. Five freshmen will join the roster, along with two transfers.
Three other Mustangs are in the U.S. Amateur field. Max Buckley also finished under par at 2-under. Matt Schovee finished at 2-over and Sam Fidone, who qualified last week, is 3-over.
