DALLAS, Texas (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team had a strong 2012-13 campaign, and their success has continued into the summer.

Bryson Dechambeau has dominated in two victories already this summer, winning at the Trans-Mississippi Championship by five shots and taking medalist honors at the U.S. Amateur Championship Qualifier at Schaffer's Mill Golf Course in Truckee, Calif, by six strokes. Dechambeau also had a runner-up result at the California State Amateur in June. In his win at the Trans-Miss Championship, Dechambeau defeated a strong group of players including the individual NCAA Champion from 2013, Max Homa of California. Dechambeau will also play at the U.S. Amateur Championship Aug. 12-18 in Brookline, Mass.

Austin Smotherman advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links in mid-July, defeating Andy Drohen, Oregon's Thomas Lim and Sean Knapp before falling to 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship medalist James Erkenbeck in the quarterfinals.

Harry Higgs took second during the stroke play portion of the Kansas State Amateur after leading after two rounds. He advanced to the quarterfinals during match play. He is also a first alternate for the U.S. Amateur. Harry's brother Alex, who is an incoming freshman for the 2013-14 season, will join Dechambeau in Massachusetts for the U.S. Amateur.

Andrew Buchanan, another incoming freshman, placed seventh at the Trans-Miss Championship and is a second alternate for the U.S. Amateur.

Mario Clemens, who finished his SMU career with a win at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional and a 16th-place result at the NCAA Championships, won the Mexican Amateur Championship on June 9. Clemens posted consecutive 65s in the second and third rounds to earn a two-shot victory.
