CHICAGO (SMU) - SMU golfer Bryson Dechambeau tied for second after four rounds of stroke play at the Western Amateur at the Beverly Country Club in Chicago. His 12-under par performance proved strong enough to advance the rising junior to the 16-player match play portion of the event.

Dechambeau led after three rounds, carding scores of 67, 68 and 67. Dechambeau's one-under 70 in the fourth round dropped him to a tie for second with Joshua Munn of New Zealand. Doug Ghim, who will be attending Texas this fall, took medalist honors. Dechambeau tallied 21 birdies over the four rounds, including 11 birdies against just two bogeys on the back nine.

Dechambeau will face Xander Schauffele of San Diego State in the first round of match play tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT. Match play will conclude Saturday.
