NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) - Mario Clemens was given honorable mention PING All-America honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday, awarding the senior for his efforts in winning the NCAA Fayetteville Regional and tying for 16th out of 156 golfers at the NCAA Championships.
Clemens won the NCAA Regional by one stroke after he birdied his final hole of the tournament. The senior also placed fifth at the Conference USA Championships and finished 10th at both the Puerto Rico Classic and The Duck Invitational. He also was able to avoid any rounds above par at the NCAA Championships, carding a season-best 54-hole score of 207.
The senior was given Second Team All-C-USA honors and made the PING All-Central Region team in May. He becomes the first Mustang to earn All-America recognition since Colt Knost was a Third Team All-American in 2006-07.
