DALLAS (SMU) – The Payne Stewart Cup and SMU Men’s Golf today announced AT&T as the title sponsor for The Payne Stewart Cup, SMU’s premier fund-raising event for the golf program.
“As a major supporter of golf events, AT&T is an ideal fit for the Payne Stewart Cup,” said Tournament Chairman, Frank Swingle. “Their leadership in community initiatives and the communications industry is an excellent match for the tournament.”
AT&T will serve as the title sponsor of the tournament held annually in tribute to SMU Alumnus, Payne Stewart.
“We are proud to support one of SMU’s most significant sporting events and invest in the university’s athletic program,” said Ron Spears, AT&T Senior Executive Vice President. “At AT&T, we believe in unleashing human capabilities, and we are honored to play a part in the development of the student athletes at SMU.”

Gregory and Enloe are both alumni of SMU. Gregory is a two-time NCAA National Championship winner and GCAA National Coach of the year in 2010 and 2011; he was named Head Coach for the Mustangs in 2011. Enloe, who has notched two Nationwide Tour victories, also joined SMU in 2011.
The Payne Stewart Cup also announced World Golf Hall of Fame Member Raymond Floyd will be the featured speaker at the Payne Stewart Cup Awards Dinner. Floyd, a winner of four major championships and 22 PGA Tour events, is known for his superb short game and mental toughness.
With wins spread over four-decades, he became the first player to win on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour in the same year. Floyd’s first tour win came in 1963 at the St. Petersburg Open. He went on to win the Masters in 1976, the PGA Championship in both 1969 and 1982, as well as the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills in 1986. Floyd was an eight-time Ryder Cup team member, serving as Captain in 1989. He has 13 wins on the Champions Tour.
Floyd was one of the first players to combine tremendous power with a soft touch, making him an important player in the evolution of the modern game of golf. Floyd's short game is considered exemplary, and he is often acknowledged as one of the greatest chippers the game has ever seen.
