TUSCON, Ariz. (SMU) - The 18th-ranked SMU Mustangs will participate in the Don Puckette NIT hosted by Arizona this weekend. Two rounds will be played on Saturday and the final round will take place Sunday.
Of the 16-team field, the Mustangs are among five squads ranked in the top 25 of the GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings and seven in the top 40. No. 3 New Mexico leads the field, followed by No. 8 TCU and 13th-ranked Oklahoma State. SMU is currently ranked 18th, and is joined by Arkansas (19th) Texas A&M (27th) and UNLV (37th). Last year's champion, San Diego State, is also in the field.
The Don Puckette NIT is a 54-hole event, which will be contested at Omni Tucson National Golf Club, a par 72, 7,094-yard layout. 36 holes will be played on Saturday with continuous play scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT. The final 18 holes will start at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
